Daporijo dwellers demand ban on gambling
ITANAGAR, Oct 22: Claiming that Dice game, a form of gambling, continued till October 16 even after expiry of the permitted period which was till October 10 in Daporijo, the district headquarters of Upper Subansiri district, the residents of Polo Colony Part II, Daporijo has requested the district administration not to give permit for gambling on each and every festival other than 'Diwali' in future.
“Permission for playing dice or other forms of gambling in Durga Puja is given nowhere in the state. But in Upper Subansiri, the district administration has granted permission to play dice in the last Durga Puja for 12 days,” the colony secretary claimed in a release.
Alleging that the issuing authority has illegally collected about Rs. 60,000 by granting permit for 12 days from October five to 16, it wanted to know from the DC the purpose of collecting the money and its utilization. It alleged that permission was first given for six days and later, it was extended for another six days.
“Such gambling activities not only disturb the atmosphere of the area but also create law and order problem,” the release said, and appealed to all senior citizens, students unions, NGOs, market committees to fight against all forms of gambling in the district to maintain peace and tranquility.

Young friends of Arunachal exhibit love and dedication as they render remarkable service
ITANAGAR, Oct 22: A Workshop on English Language Learning (WELL) was conducted for rural Wakro school children by Niharika Rathore of Ajmer and Kaveri Dixit from Delhi from October three to 18.
The school children, who were initially upset as they had to attend classes during Durga Puja break, expressed great excitement saying that Niharika and Kaveri kept them charmed and captivated since day one of their arrival at Wakro.
The WELL was conducted with lots of interactive discussions, role-
Niharika and Kaveri concentrated on teaching Functional English both to the students as well as the teachers.
The WELL is not conventional kind of teaching but was more of interactive sessions with games, arts and crafts, music and visual aid, role play, story – telling.
Singing common songs, such as “mary had a little lamb” in kindergarten encouraged students to attend to sounds in words. The focus on language games from nursery rhymes or simple songs effectively taught kids to understand rhyming words breaking the words down into separate sounds. Kids had fun deleting sounds while they were also able to blend sounds etc.
For the adults the guest faculty concentrated on one-
Balu Kri complimented the duo saying, it was worth attending the sessions during our holidays. “It has helped us in acquiring better language skills. I am a more confident child today,” declared a child, while many are requesting the guest faculty members to devote more time in future.
A separate one hour WELL was conducted for the rural teachers to help them acquire fluency in English every day during their stay at Wakro.
A participant rural teacher says, “My confidence level is improved so is my English and the faculty members were really great and friendly.
Niharika and Kaveri appreciated the good behavior and sincerity of Arunachalee children. They assured all that they would certainly try to devote more time in future in serving the cause of education in Arunachal Pradesh.
The guest faculty team interacted with commander of the Army formation in the region. The Commander explained in detail about the remote areas and while appreciating the young leaders for their initiative suggested them to revisit and continue forward on the effort started by them.

Bharat Bhushan Sethi, CO 186 CRPF opined that a lot of self transformation and learning can happen while one serves in these hilly areas.
“The people here are pure at heart and their minds are still much faultless,” he opined.
Vineeta Jalan, corporate leader based in Jalannagar, Dibrugarh appreciated the young leaders and expressed that in modern times it’s hard to find happy faces among the youth.
“It is greatly encouraging and reassuring to see these two young girls happy in serving with smiling graceful faces. Such efforts by spirited youth will help build a vibrant society,” she added. Deepa Singh lauded the young girls for having the urge to serve with dedication and sincerity.

exists in the state. Populated around 3000 in number, Sartang people reside in Jerigaon
and Khoina village under Nafra circle and also at Salari village under Dirang circle.

A section of population those living near to Monpa tribe follows Buddhism and celebrates Losar festival while other group living closure to Sajolang (Miji) believes in traditional tribal practice like sacrifice of animal. The main festival of Sartang is Thongchodu which is celebrated in the month of October/November. Sartang has been categorized under minor tribe category and efforts are being made to preserve their unique culture. Majority of Sartang’s living at West Kameng district are extremely hard working and mostly depends on agriculture for sustainability. Many educated youth hailing from the community are now fighting hard to create niche for themselves. “For long there has been lot of confusion regarding our identity. People of Arunachal hardly know about us. Some of them think that we are Monpa and others presume us to be Sajolang(Miji). However with concerted effort of elders from our community in recent years we are slowly managing to create separate identity for ourselves,” shared a Sartang youth from Jerigaon village.

CCI, headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, aims to fast-
"Dibang project will go to CCI. Power Ministry is also likely to seek CCI intervention on numerous projects in the future based on the amount of investment involved. The higher investment projects will be referred first," said a source.
The project was originally scheduled for commission by 2017 but delays in clearances will push it back by a couple of years, sources said.
This delay will also lead to cost escalation but the amount could not be ascertained.
Power Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia had earlier said that as many as 94 hydro power projects are languishing due to tardy progress at various levels in granting them clearances.
Once approved, they can generate 37,000 MW electricity.
Hydro power contributes 39,623 MW of the total 2,25,793 MW capacity in the country.
Sources further said that the ministry may also approach CCI for other hydel projects.
NHPC has an installation base of 5,702 MW from 17 hydropower stations on ownership basis including projects taken up through joint ventures.
The company is constructing 7 projects aggregating to a total installed capacity of 4,095 MW. It plans to add over 10,000 MW of hydropower capacity by the end of XIII plan (year 2022). PTI

Accident prone capital
Dear Editor,
I would like to share my view through column of your esteemed daily regarding speeding vehicles which causes maximum road accidents in twin capital city. Every day, we hear about road accident causing deaths. The young bike riders and tempo along with tracker drivers is the main culprit. All the accidents take place due to over speeding.
In recent year state capital has earned bad name for numerous horrifying road accidents. Therefore I have few suggestions for concern authorities which may help in controlling rash and reckless driving in twin city of Itanagar and Naharlagun. Traffic police need to streamline their working system. Regular patrolling should be done to catch rash drivers. Erring drivers should be booked and strictly punished. The speed limits should be strictly enforced.
Traffic police should install speed detectors on the roads and those violating speed limit should be punished. Police should crack down on motorists and driving licenses of those violating for second time should be cancelled. Dilapidated roads must also be repaired. All these measures will help to make road between Itanagar and Naharlagun safe for motorists and pedestrians as well as.

This is in response to the article by one Dr Kenjum Bagra where he has in details described about way his HOD from RGU is punishing him for daring to stand up for right cause. People like Prof HN Sharma, HOD, of Zoology department are the reason why relation between student and teacher is getting worse in recent year. It’s astonishing to read that despite being teacher who are like father figure Prof Sharma harbours so much vindictive attitude. Teachers are usually big hearted and are always known for forgiving students even if they commit any mistake. If we have teacher like Prof Sharma teaching in lone university of state for sure our students will continue to suffer. By developing vindictive attitude he is behaving like dictator.
He is curtailing rights of students to raise question against him. This is a dangerous
trend and there is every possibility that Prof Sharma may misuse his position. I

Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed newspaper I would like to appeal various unions and associations of state, please don’t go for bandh call to press for your demands. During recent capital bandh call, I faced lot of problem. My mother was admitted in a hospital at Itanagar and my younger sister was taking care of her. As it was bandh day, I could not deliver food to them because traffic moment was not allowed.
We had bought some biscuits and other eatable items in advance keeping bandh in mind bandh call. But my old mother wanted to eat homemade food and therefore she did not eat biscuits. Because of it she faced lot of problem. My younger sister also starved of hunger. I was staying in a relative’s house in Naharlagun and so could not deliver food. We are poor people who come to Itanagar only for medical treatment. I felt so bad thinking about condition of my sister and mother and went out to try finding way. I saw some police and magistrate vehicles going around without much problem. My experience tells me that during bandh call only poor like us suffers. I know my letter won’t make any difference but it is my sincere appeal to students unions like AAPSU, ANSU, GSU, AdiSu, SUMA and various other associations, unions please think thrice for poor people before declaring any bandh call. I would rather suggest them to gherao house of particular MLA, Minister or CM if your demands are not fulfilled. Please spare poor who are already suffering so much in life
